Hi there welcome to the Shed with the Chandelier, my shed in the Med. I have lived on a island in the Med for over 12 years now and have practiced as an artist/designer/maker/writer… since graduating from the Glasgow School of Art and Goldsmiths College London. I am label adverse – but understand others find this helpful in understand what I do so here some :

I am dyslexic – diagnosed in my 30’s, so understand the adult perspective of being given this label… however it helped me put into perspective my secretive lifelong feeling of not quite being as good as everyone else. As an adult I am pretty confident in most things I do because I have learned that there are many many benefits of “thinking differently” and my natural ability to compensate for  others perceptions of my abilities and have given me ability to find a way to do most things. I love reading – it just takes me a bit longer than most but I love been lost in a book on my balcony overlooking the med., I love, love, love writing – but you wouldn’t want to read my first drafts! but I am told you would never know I was dyslexic by draft 27 🙂

I am living as chronic heart patient. A big surprise to me in my mid 40’s and to those who know me  – no I didn’t have a heart attack – I have wonderful arteries apparently, my heart just stopped. I have an electrical fault – that causes me to have irregular life threatening heart rhythm so I now live with a pacemaker. That sure as anything makes you rethink life and rethink how I want to live in the future. I also live with the condition cardiomypathy which enabled me to take part in a cardiac rehab programme which has changed my life too. I have a renewed interest in health, lifestyle and nutrition and the challenges it brings from a very different perspective.

I am a wife and mother too. Being married to a merchant seaman and businessman means I have travelled internationally and lived the “expat” life,  and sailed some parts of the seas most people never experienced – we have done this together and apart and continue to love to do so. I am loving being a mother to two fab young people who motivate and inspire me daily with their diverse passions and interests and are just wonderful beings – well I would say that wouldn’t I :-).

So where does the Shed with the Chandelier fit into this: it my space I felt a need to build when I  share it with other too… a physical space for me to work and a vertical place I can share online for others to pop in for a visit too.

I share conversations with creatives, I host an online Facebook group – come and join in and I enjoy sharing with others on their personal journeys.
